Updating windows xp sp2
I set the updates so that it notifies me and then i choose to install but after a long time nothing was happening so i went to the mcrosoft update website and i think it installed active x controls but now i have a page that says to go to another page to get inline assistance. From experience that i have had before but can't remember all the details that never ended up anywhere and i think i had to ask someone on this forum for help.It was just way to complicated maybe or missing pieced of information. Ofcourse but i am working with what i can and have suggested to put more ram in this. Yeah no i am a linux user so i have way too many things in my place as it is and am not a technician.I can also never understand windows error messages."windows xp sp2, 1.6/256mb"256MB, really? You should download SP3 directly from Microsoft, not thru Windows Update. Just a hobbyist...wait i think i did download sp3 ..be backed up on a cd somewhere.Don’t follow these instructions unless you’re sure you’re ready for Windows 7.The Windows XP Service Pack 2 (XP SP2) fixes a range of bugs in Windows XP.You can download SP2, burn it to CD and use it on multiple PCs.
It doesn't matter what XP updates you have previously applied to your system, SP2 will update any unpatched, partially patched or completely updated system (it includes all previously released patches and updates).
If you are going to reinstall the original release of Windows XP on a PC, it is important that you apply this Service Pack BEFORE connecting to the Web.
Nasty viruses and worms like Sasser and Blaster can enter an unpatched system as soon as it is connected to the Web. You don't even have to receive email or go to a web site - just being connected is enough.
A Microsoft technician responded to my plea for help well within their 24 hour goal.
My problem was particularly annoying because there was no error code, thus nothing to search the net for.
